Head Swimming Coach - Matt Moen
Coach Matt Moen starting coaching with the Wildcats as an assistant coach in 2018 before stepping into the head coach role prior to the 2019-2020 season. Originally from Brookfield, Connecticut, he was a three-time All-State swimmer in high school (500 free, 200 IM, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay) and was a 2012 High School All-American in the 200 medley and 400 free relays, leading the Bookfield Bobcats to three state championships. He swam for the Wilton Y Wahoos club team, where he captained the team to three YMCA National Championships. He swam and coached for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2013-2018. He was a team captain his senior year.
Coach Moen has been helping on the pool deck since he was twelve, assisting his mom who was considered to be one of the best developmental coaches in Connecticut. At sixteen Matt began to coach his own group at a country club where he assisted for two years prior to becoming the head coach for a summer before heading off to Ohio State. While attending Ohio State Matt continued to coach as head coach of Wedgewood Country Club leading the rays to two runner up finishes. After graduating Matt stayed in Ohio to begin his coaching career as a Volunteer Assistant at Ohio State. In this role Matt was mentored by many great coaches including Head Coach Bill Dorenkott and spent the majority of his time with the Distance group as the mile is his favorite event to watch and to coach.
Personally, Matt is an avid tri-athlete, where he has competed in several events, ranging from sprint to half-Iron Man and would love to compete in a full Iron Man triathlon in the near future. He also enjoys playing chess, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Coach Moen is the Lawrence Township Aquatics Director and Head Coach of the Lawrence Swim Team. For more information on LST competitive and learn-to-swim programming, click the link below:
