About Lawrence North

about

Welcome to Lawrence North High School . “Achieving Excellence, Building Character, Serving Others” is the vision guiding Lawrence North as we serve a diverse population of over 2,600 students. As a fully accredited, comprehensive 9-12 high school, we offer over 750 courses including Advanced Placement, Advance College Project (Dual Credit), and International Baccalaureate. To assist with the transition to high school, we have created a school-within-a-school known as the Lawrence North Freshman School and we offer additional support through our AVID program and tutoring center. As students envision their future, they may consider McKenzie Career Center particularly if they have an interest in bio-medical science, nursing, robotics, engineering, auto mechanics, cosmetology and food service.

We have much to be proud of at Lawrence North including our role in the district's K-12 Spanish Language Immersion Program, a program recently recognized as an International Spanish Academy by the Kingdom of Spain . Our visual and performing arts classes consistently rank among the state's best in art, music, choral, and dance competitions. Our athletic teams compete in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference, a conference considered one of the strongest in the Midwest . These achievements can be attributed to the efforts of an outstanding staff. We take great pride in our teaching staff, 70% of which have earned a Master's degree or higher.

FRESHMAN SCHOOL

In the fall of 2001, the Freshman School opened its doors to over 650 students. This school is one of several schools within a school to be developed for Lawrence North. The Freshman School is located on the second floor of the high school building. The Freshman School has a full faculty, administration, guidance and support services available to all students. The main focus and belief in developing the Freshman School is to enhance communication between students and teachers and parents and teachers. The first six weeks of the school year over 50% of the freshman students made the Honor role. This personalization for the freshman of LN has begun to show huge benefits and successes.

MEDIA CENTER

Our mission is to provide access to informational materials in different formats; to support literacy through recreational reading; and to promote inquiry and research skills that will enable students to become proficient users of information.

Our mission objectives are to provide access to information; to provide access to literature for pleasure reading; to provide instruction and consultation services and to provide a welcoming atmosphere, encouraging students to take advantage of the media center's varied resources and become proficient library users.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY

The Professional Development Academy was developed for faculty both new to the building and in search of continuous professional growth to earn graduate credits, continuing renewal credits and support for working toward the National Board Certification. The academy provides structure for training and for opportunity to be involved in action research directed toward the continuous improvement of classroom practice.

TECHNOLOGY

The Lawrence North community and the district community are on the forefront of building capacity for the new digital age for students and staff. As a recipient of a multimillion dollar grant all schools within MSDLT have on sight Technology Coaches working with staff and serving as trainers and support systems. The high school itself has a full time Technology Coordinator and technician who is offering technical support and workshop opportunities for staff to continue to be up to date on the most current integration of technology into the classroom. LN has eight labs, over sixty computers in the media center, a video production lab, a Cable TV show facility and over six hundred computers within the school building. As technology changes and advances so is the capacity for LN students and staff.

The Lawrence North faculty and students are proud to be one of the top ten schools in the state of Indiana. That designation does not come without the effort and the vision to continue to move into the next century of teaching and learning. LN is a school committed to making each and every student and faculty member the best they can be.
